![]() ![]() ![]() There was even a scene that had me literally laughing out loud, something that I’ve never found myself doing over a scene in an epic fantasy novel! I do love the odd kind of humor these Witcher books have, which makes the reading experience more enjoyably despite the otherwise serious tone of the story. I love Cirri a whole lot, and I adore the kind of “feral fey child” thing she’s got going on. I thought the first half of the book was fun as a) honestly any scene involving Geralt and his wit is a delight and b) we got to see more of Cirri as a sort of apprentice to Yennefer. While Blood of Elves was more about setting up this idea of the turns of destiny and giving hints to an upcoming Great War, The Time of Contempt actually shows us a bit more of the unrest and action that ignites what I believe to be the central events in the rest of the series. The Time of Contempt is the second book in the main Witcher series by Andrzej Sapkowski, and I thought it was a bit more interesting than Blood of Elves, for the most part.
